House rules Gymnasium - Use of racks and platforms
-
Training safety
-
Use clips so your plates can't slide off
-
Ask for a spotter when training heavy or till failure
-
Provide yourself and other sufficient space to train safely
-
-
Wear proper shoes: why?
-
It provides a stable surface to help you balance and support heavy loads. This is particularly important with exercises like the deadlift, squat, and overhead press.
-
It fits your feet snugly and leaves no wiggle room. You don't want your feet moving around in your shoes as you train.
-
It provides good traction so your feet don't slip or shift during a lift.
-
Finally, shoes provide more safety (foot protection), hygiene and better looks (neat) in general.
-
-
Storing plates
-
When you are done, put the plates back and store them where they belong! The right spot for every plate is indicated with labels on the storage trees.
-
-
Olympic Weight Lifting
-
For Olympic lifts, use the platforms and the bars and bumper Olympic plates. Don't use Olympic plates for bench pressing or exercises on the half racks.
-
-
Dropping weights
-
Rubber platforms and bumper plates are designed to reduce impact, noise and to prevent damage to the flooring. This does not mean you are allowed to drop weights as if it was a new sport.
-
Dropping the bar is only allowed for Olympic Lifts such as the Snatch of Jerk variations, when:
-
failing (losing control, balance, form and to prevent injury)
-
the training is so heavy you are not able to stop/ catch the bar on the way down
-
This means that you may not let the bar drop during warming-up, weights you can control or exercises that are not performed overhead.
-
-
If you have to drop the bar, make sure you control it on the way down and minimise its impact.
-
Nb.: The vinyl plates are not allowed to be dropped at all. They will tear down and damage the floor. When performing deadlifts or other exercises from the floor, use the rubber mats for cushioning.
-
-
-
Racking and un-racking the bar
-
Be gently! Thrashing the bar back in the rack will damage materials and create unnecessary noise.
-
-
Noise and aggressive behaviour
-
Motivation is something good, but that does not mean you have to produce excessive noise. Annoying behaviour will be addressed by the instructors.
-
-
Use of chalk powder is not allowed!
